I stumbled into bellydance
the year I turned 40 and took a "Mommy and Me" class at
the Fox Valley Park District with our very own Laura 1. I had
begun dancing in my early teens, continued through school, and then taught
dance part-time as an adult. The first time I attended
a bellydance performance I felt like I had come home. The music was
international, the costumes were earthy and exotic and
the dancers were all ages and sizes. To me, bellydance is
inspiring -- just like the women who dance it. I am grateful to
have bellydance as a creative outlet and this phenomenal group of women
to dance with. Bellydancing also sets a good example for
our daughters. Let's face it, nothing says, "I'm O.K. with
me" quite like publicly gyrating your belly after having a few
kids... |
